Sessions consist of three 20 minute appointments with Dr. Orwick (at Week 1, 6 & 12) and nine 1 hour sessions with Anna Burchard over the course of the twelve weeks. Dr. Orwick will supervise your program, design your supplement plan, and answer any questions concerning complex health issues or lab work results. Anna will go over your test results with you, coordinate your program, and provide information concerning your unique health profile and challenges. About Anna - Anna Burchard is a Metagenics Certified Lifestyle Educator and a FirstLine Therapy participant. She is an ACSM (American College of Sports medicine) Certified Personal Trainer and a graduate of the Providence Institute's Personal Trainer Program.
Anna is personally committed to the pursuit of superior health and wellbeing. Having dealt with various auto-immune issues she knows first hand the power of appropriate diet, supplementation and positive visualization to optimize one's potential. 5. Cholesterol and Diabetes Panel - We do in-office testing for lipid profile and blood sugar level analysis to determine your risk for coronary heart disease and diabetes. The test provides results for Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Glucose, HDL, LDL, TC/HDL Ratio, and liver enzymes. The finger prick testing is simple, painless, quick and inexpensive.

6. Inflammation/Fats- Prostaglandin-E2 is a hormone that regulates modulation of inflammation. It is naturally released by blood vessel walls in response to infection or inflammation that acts on the brain to induce fever. You can unnaturally increase it (thereby inflamation) in your body by eating meat, sugar, and/or refined carbs, saturated and/or trans fats. Also by eating Omega 6 oils (corn, soybean, safflower, peanut, cottonseed, and sunflower) ex: cookies, chips, salad dressings.

Ideally your Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio should be 1 : 1.
The average American’s ratio is 10 : 1 and people with chronic pain have an average of 20 : 1.
If you lower yours to 4 : 1 then you decrease risk of heart disease by 70%.  
You can increase Omega 3 by eating clean fish, flaxseed oil and clean EPA-DHA.

7. Neurotransmitter/Adrenal Testing - Are you: Depressed, Anxious, Stressed, ADD, and tired all the time? Do you have: Insomnia, Brain Fog, Addictive Issues, Panic Attacks, and Crave Carbs? These are all indications that your Neurotransmitters(NTs) are deficient or out of balance. Affective Disorders are thought to be NTs deficiencies. Did you know that anti-depressants don’t increase your NTs they only affect how NTs function? Nutritional Supplements do increase your NTs.
We recommend an NT/adrenal test that allows you to see what your baseline is for the top 6 neurotransmitters (serotonin, GABA, dopamine, nor-epinephrine, epinephrine, and glutamate) and how your adrenals are functioning with 4 cortisol and 2 DHEA values

It will determine your baseline values, we will recommend the appropriate supplements, and you can retest every 6-9 weeks until your NT’s are balanced.

Fortunately and unfortunately the FDA does not monitor supplement and herbs. Many profit seeking, unethical or even uneducated companies are jumping on the bandwagon and producing vitamins. I often have patients tell me I've already tried "so and so" and it didn't work. Let us look at some differences in quality that you might not be aware of.

Metagenics is one of our main suppliers of supplements. An independent company assays the supplements to verify potency, purity and viability at the time of expiration.

One such independent study of probiotics pulled ten different Acidophilus products from a health food store shelf and assayed them. They found that none of the ten contained what the label represented. What is worse, several contained additional bad bacteria, like strep fecalis, indicitave of temperature damage. Many companies store their products in hot warehouses and ship them in hot trucks and then place the product in the refrigerator at the health food store. Other companies use low-grade processing methods that damage the beneficial bacteria. Then many consumers just buy the cheapest brand and wonder why it doesn't work. Metagenics' probiotics are carefully processed, shipped cold and kept refrigerated in our office until you buy them.

Efficacy of herbal supplements - Metagenics uses only pharmaceutical grade, organic, wild crafted herbs that have been independently assayed for the active ingredient with scientific research behind it. If the herb is grown in leached out soil, harvested at the wrong time, covered with pesticides, or doesn't have enough of the active ingredient in it, then it will not work for you. Dr. Orwick thoroughly researched her suppliers and will only use those that have scientific research to back their claims (such as Nutri-West.) Remember THE MOST EXPENSIVE SUPPLEMENT IS THE ONE THAT DOES NOT WORK !! If you save $5 on a $15 product and it doesn't work, then you have just wasted $10. Suppose you purchased inferior glucosamine for arthritic relief.  You now still have the pain you were seeking to alleviate and the belief that glucosamine does not work.
